The PMEA Hall of Fame was created in 2009 to recognize music educators who have made a lasting impact on their students, schools, and communities. Their achievements and honors speak to their merit as inductees in the 2015 class for the PMEA Hall of Fame. Meet the richly deserving inductees.
Carl D. Barr, retired, taught in the South Eastern School District for 37 years. At one point or another, Carl taught general music K-8, instrumental music 6-8, and primarily taught choral at Kennard-Dale HS. Carl received the PMEA District 7 Citation of Excellence in 2010, and served as District 7 president from 2010-2012.
“By any metric, Carl Barr’s legacy as a music educator in the South Eastern School District is impressive. It is a legacy that is still felt today and one which will certainly resound for generations. His work earned his students. his employer, and himself personal and group awards and recognition at the highest levels. However, what is his most enduring legacy is reaching EVERY student through music education. Long before including students outside traditional performance ensembles was the latest music education craze, Carl was actually doing it. He inspired every student to make music, and to make music they could be proud of. Carl never forgot the reason he became a music educator, and it was that joy of making music that he sought to stir up in all his students. His effort and enthusiasm toward this end are unparalleled, and it is those qualities that set him apart.”
