2011-2012 Scholarship PMEA District 7 Winners

Kelsey Ross - Red Land High School
Kelsey is the recipient of the District 7 Band Scholarship. She is a graduating senior from Red Land High School. Kelsey participated as a horn player in PMEA District and Regional Festivals in both Band and Orchestra. She also participated the PMEA All-State Wind Ensemble, MENC All- Eastern Wind Ensemble and in the MENC National Wind Ensemble. Kelsey participated in a variety of music ensembles at Red Land, such as the wind ensemble, marching band(section leader),orchestra(principal horn), brass quintet, jazz band and pit orchestra for the high school musicals.
Kelsey was the principal horn for the Harrisburg Youth Symphony Orchestra, is a member of the Susquehanna Valley Horn Ensemble and her church Christmas Brass Ensemble. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Club, Spanish National Honor Society and was vice president of the Red Land High School Key Club. Kelsey was also a member of her school’s track team.
Kelsey was accepted to the music programs at Penn State, Ithaca and Temple. -
Andrew Loose - Cumberland Valley High School
Andrew is the recipient of the District 7 Jazz Scholarship. He is a graduating senior from Cumberland Valley High School. Andrew participated as a trumpet player in District, Regional and All-State Band and in District Orchestra and Jazz Band (twice). Andrew participated in a variety of ensembles at Cumberland Valley, which included four years with CV Symphonic Winds(auditioned ensemble), Jazz Band 1(lead trumpet/ride book), orchestra(principal trumpet), the pit orchestra and Christmas brass. He was also drum major for two years with the marching band.
Additional activities include performing with the Craig Sunday Orchestra, Swing Big Band, Central PA Friends of Jazz Youth Jazz Band, International Trumpet Guild Ensemble, Andrew Bellanca Trio and Friends and a family jazz trio named Jazz-a-la-Carte. Andrew also performs trumpet for a variety of social, church and community ceremonies. He also teaches private trumpet lessons, jazz workshops and summer jazz camps. Honors include the Tournament of Bands Chapter VI Scholarship Award and was a semi-finalist three times for the National Trumpet Competition.
Andrew will major in music education at Slippery Rock. -
Erin Reilly - Central York High School
Erin is the recipient of the District 7 Orchestra Scholarship. She is a graduating senior from Central York High School. Erin participated as a violist in District, Regional, and All-State Orchestra Festivals and the MENC National Honors Orchestra Festival. She also participated in PMEA District 7 Jazz Band. Erin’s other school music activities included the marching band, jazz lab, Six o’clock Jazz Band, Holiday Brass, Symphonic Band and orchestra(viola section leader).
Additionally, Erin was the principal violist for the Allegretto Youth Chamber Orchestra and pianist for News@11 Jazz Band. She was also the violist for the worship team at Living Word Community Church. She was named the Most Outstanding Underclassman for Orchestra and Most Outstanding Soloist for Jazz Band. She received the National Orchestra Award and has been on the Distinguished Honor Roll at Central York.
Erin will major in music education at Shenandoah University. -
Laura Serfass - Gettysburg High School
Laura is the recipient of the District 7 General Scholarship. Laura is a graduating senior from Gettysburg High School. Laura participated in PMEA District and Regional Chorus Festivals. At Gettysburg, Laura was a member of the high school orchestra, chorus, glee club, women’s ensemble, concert choir, string ensemble, string quartet and theatre. She served as president of the high school orchestra(principal cellist) and as vice president of the high school chorus.
Laura received the Shining STAR Award for Choral Achievement at Gettysburg High School, Lion’s Club Music Department Student of the Month and Director’s Outstanding Achievement Award for Orchestra. She received 2 Shining STAR Awards for achievement in French 2 and French 3, was a member of the National Honor Society and vice president of Gettysburg High School French Club. Additionally, Laura was a member of the Gettysburg College Symphony Orchestra, Zion United Church of Christ choir, serving additionally as soloist and accompanist on piano, cello and violin. She was the principal cellist for “The Mikado” pit orchestra held at Majestic Theater. She is a teacher for beginning piano, violin and cello students and is an amateur songwriter.
Laura will major in music education at West Virginia University. -
Gregory Feldmann - Central York High School
Gregory is the recipient of the District 7 Choral Scholarship. Gregory is a graduating senior from Central York High School. Gregory participated in PMEA District and Regional Chorus Festivals for 3 years and in PMEA All-State Chorus in 2012. Gregory participated as a trumpet player for the Central York Symphonic Band (first chair), concert chorus (senior soloist), jazz lab(lead trumpet), “Celebration” Show Choir, “Panther” Marching Band(section leader).
Other activities include participation in the Central York Community Chorus, York County Junior Honors Choir , Synergy Vocal Ensemble, York County Senior Honors Choir, Concorde Vocal Ensemble, Advent Lutheran Church Choir member, assistant conductor and brass choir member.
Gregory received the Central York Outstanding Underclass Choral Award, Underclass Band Award and Junior Class Recipient of the Music Department Award. He was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Central York High School Service Award. He was also a letterman on the varsity soccer team and was selected to the all-tournament team. Gregory was also selected as Central York Homecoming King.
Gregory will major in music education at West Chester University or Susquehanna University.
